So, in preparation for the cold week, we decided to add some more insulation to some areas of the RV. Chad has been trying to make sure our water pipes don't freeze. They are located inside the RV, but with these low temperatures, they could still freeze.
First, he added great stuff insulating foam to the corners as you can see here....
Then he added bubble wrap insulation around the pipes to protect them from the floor / outside walls as you can see here.....
These pipes are located under our bed with the water tank. Since they are lying on the cold floor, Chad added insulation underneath the pipes. |
These pipes follow the outside wall. The insulation will help protect the pipes from the cold outside the wall. |
Pipes behind the drawers/cabinets. |
We used duct tape to secure the insulation pieces. We also added insulation along the floor around the box as shown here....

The front |
Will keep you all posted as the week progresses if we have any issues with the cold....
I can't even imagine being in an RV during such cold weather. Our 5th wheel isn't insulated very well either. Our water pipes started to freeze if the temperature stays below about 25 for more than a couple of days before we wrapped the hydrant and water line with a roof de-icing cable. The bubble wrap insulation looks like a great idea.

ReplyDeleteHow was the late winter season? It seems that those insulators helped a lot in maintaining a warmer temperature inside your RV. Anyway, those tips on insulator placement will certainly help in limiting resource consumption when it comes to keeping the RV warm throughout the winter. Thank you for that! Have a nice day!

We stayed warm & cozy inside all winter...even down to -15 degrees. We did have some problems with our pipes freezing even though we added the additional insulation. However, because we replaced everything with pex tubing, no pipes burst and placing heaters blowing under our kitchen cabinets would thaw everything in about an hour each morning.

This post was about to the walls and floor in areas of the RV behind cabinets and under our couch.

ReplyDeleteWe have done lots of snow camping in our little 1999 - 24' 5th wheel. Last October we camped in Lethbridge in 6" of snow and then in Regina at -14 which is about 10 below. All we did was add an extra heater in our little trailer. Our little canary and us were very comfortable. A beautiful time to remember.
ReplyDeleteThe installation process usually requires minimal set-up of the equipment and normally just requires careful aimed spraying. 2-component spray foam insulation kit
